About UsThe Jassy Dean Trust has been supporting sick Waiheke Island children since 1994, two years after our teenage daughter, Jassy, died from Meningococcal Meningitis. I believed that something positive could come from the tragedy of Jassy’s death. In gratitude of the love and assistance that my family and I received from the Waiheke community during that time of grief I began researching the idea of providing a permanent support network for sick Waiheke children and their families. This culminated in nine founding trustees signing the Trust Deed in 1994 and the Jassy Dean Trust was born. The Trust's work is a way to celebrate Jassy's life and to help other Waiheke families and children who may require assistance at a time of crisis through accident or illness, or who need on-going support as a result of accident or illness. The Trust has helped hundreds of local families in many ways… organizing assistance around the home, providing emergency medical equipment, as well as respite care when needed. Through the Trust, local medical centres issue wallets with phone card and taxi vouchers, and Fullers’-sponsored ferry tickets amounting to approximately $10,000.00 per year. These wallets are made available to families in emergency situations when they need to take a sick child to Auckland. We are also pro-active in delivering preventative and educational programmes to families by sponsoring parenting courses. Each year the Trust gives financial assistance to selected YMCA school holiday camps. We have an ongoing commitment to support community agencies and programmes that directly involve the wellbeing of Waiheke kids and their families.
